DEAD LETTER RECORDS JOIN BRELLA

Newish record label Dead Letter Records, run by Tim Hudspith (ex-Goldentone), is Brella's newest member. Launched in 2000, DLR focuses on releasing a number of different styles of alternative, original, contemporary music. Visit Dead Letter Records here.

THE BITTER END AT HARVEST 2002

After a year-long hiatus, The Bitter End return to the live scene, albeit for two songs, at the third annual Harvest Music Festival.

The band performs at the excellent Rob Roy hotel in Fitzroy on Friday, October 25th for the launch of the Gene Clark tribute album, You Can't Hide Your Love Forever. Other acts include Lisa Miller, Dave Graney and Clare Moore, Wagons, The Spoils ... too many to mention, so go here for more information. The album will be available on the night for $15 with all proceeds going to community radio 3CR.

NEW CHRIS CHAPPLE RELEASE IMMINENT

The Chris Chapple Ensemble has completed it's new record, provisionally entitled Whisky Bay. It's expected to be released this side of Christmas. Pre-ordering at a special price of $15 is available by emailing chrischapple@brella.org.

STEVEN CAMDEN ON CR

Steven Camden of The Bitter End will be standing in as host of Marcus Mulcahy's 3CR Saturday evening radio show Blue-Green Footprints. He'll be taking the show slightly off it's usual track by having weekly local musicians in as guests talking about the music - not necssarily country-esque - they love and/or were influenced by. In addition, there'll be some rare live and unreleased tracks of well known artists and even some music-oriented comedy tracks - all in the best possible taste, of course ...

Brella has launched an mp3.com "web station" which features sample songs from Brella members. Go here to see what it's all about.

THE BITTER END RELEASES ELEMENT

Melbourne's Bitter End has finally completed its first full-length album, entitled "Element". It's available from several good (nay, great) record shops around Melbourne including Collector's Corner, Au-Go-Go (both city) and Raoul (St Kilda). You can hear the complete album on mp3.com here. The band have included professionally mastered mp3s of all of the tracks in an effort to maintain some semblance of aural decency in this lowly audio medium.

HARVEST MUSIC FESTIVAL

Five Brella bands will be taking part in the second annual Harvest Music Festival in October - Melbourne's Bitter End, Chris Chapple Ensemble, Spoils and Garden State and Adelaide's Goldentone. Last year's inaugural festival was warmly received, featuring a mixture of live music and archive music film. Highlights of the latter included rare footage of Gram Parsons, The Byrds, Clarence White and Neil Young. Of the superb live music venues taking part - The Empress, The Erwin Rado Theatre, The Aqua Lounge, Pony and Raoul Records - it's lamentable that the best room in the country, Prahan's Continental Café, is now no more. But that's another story.
