"Eastern
Terrace" is a very sensitive and reflective album where the musicians explore
two different worlds: a pop one where you can file all their songs and a more
experimental and repetitive one where you can file all their instrumental numbers.
Each world seems to be very close of each other by their light and crystalline
sound but the feelings, the vibes, the essence that come from the songs are
totally different. From the pop side, I feel a more melancholic vibe rising
from the tracks ('My Sensation', 'Dirty', 'Out of My Mind on Dope and Speed'
a spacey cover of Julian Cope, the start of 'Moving Too Fast' ). This sensation
is increased by the girly / falsetto vocals of Andrew, sweet and soft, that
remember me the late 70's / Early 80's Rolling Stones era. A song as 'Emotional
Rescue', for those who know this one, will give you a better idea of what I
mean. The contrast is quite strong with the instrumental tracks, this time the songs develop a more psychedelic vibe where the band use more effects and let their music smoothly flows in a river of serenity. Such tracks as 'The Big V', 'The Sundowner' or 'Charmed' become hypnotic with a great work on the drums/percussions' parts and the harmony of each one. Either of these feelings take the listener to a kind of levitation state but always in a restrained style. The restrained style is the common point between both sides of the band even their most electronic track 'One Time at Sundown' goes in the same way. "Eastern Terrace" is intense record, full of emotions. Some of you, I'm sure, will like only a side of the band, but I like both as they perfectly complement one another to my ears and mind.
